Join the Rat Race! The exciting new sport of Barn Hunt is being taught at Countryside Pet Resort! Classes are on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Learn the rules, strategy and teamwork it takes to succeed in this sport.

Have you heard about the exciting new sport called Barn Hunt? This fun competition tests your dogs’ natural vermin hunting abilities in a maze of hay bales. The “Rat Catcher” used to bring his pack of terriers to area barns to rid them of mice and rats. Building off that tradition, Barn Hunt competitions today utilize stacks of hay, rats safely ensconced in heavy duty PVC tubes, and difficult courses to test the teamwork of dogs and their handlers. Similar to underground Earth Dog competitions for the smaller terriers, Barn Hunt can be described as “earth dog above ground”. Your dog will start off at the Novice level but can progress through the title levels of Open, Senior and Masters. You will find more rats, have more hay to work through, and see trickier tunnels as you advance through the levels.

Barn Hunt Classes are now available at Countryside Pet Resort—the only place in Central Texas offering classes. They are given on an “on-going” basis on Tuesdays at 10:00 am and 11:00 am and 10:00 am on most Saturdays. Classes will move to earlier times as we move into the summer months.

The classes are $15 per dog per class, are outdoors, and will get you ready for the trials.
